Details:
In the first of our closer-look webinars this term, we’re exploring problem solving in GCSE maths.
We’ll be joined by Dr Helen Drury, Dean of Maths Excellence and Maths Horizons Co-Lead at Purposeful Ventures, and Dr Jamie Frost, Founder and Chief Mathematician at Dr Frost Maths, to discuss real-world application of problem solving and how we can support students to build greater confidence in mathematical thinking.
This session will cover:
- Effective reasoning and problem solving pedagogy from the Maths Horizons programme and wider evidence
- Barriers that can prevent students from demonstrating effective mathematical problem solving skills
- Practical examples and strategies you can use now to develop students’ confidence and ability to apply mathematics in meaningful contexts
You’ll also receive an update on Pearson's ongoing research across qualifications, teaching and learning, and how this work is shaping the development of future mathematics qualifications, including how problem solving and mathematical reasoning are assessed in exams.
