Details:
This 2-hour course is for anyone working in an education environment who wishes to gain an in-depth understanding of systematic synthetic phonics and the principles underpinning the teaching of phonics. The course helps develop confidence and competence in essential knowledge for the teaching of phonics and is particularly useful for teaching assistants. The course begins with an introduction to the concept of synthetic phonics. The course provides an in-depth look at what phonemes, graphemes and grapheme-phoneme correspondences are before going on to look at alternative phonemes for graphemes and common exception words. Teachers have a chance to test their understanding of these concepts in the interactive activities. In addition, the course helps teachers to develop competence in sound recognition and pronounce the sounds correctly. Teachers will be actively encouraged to ask questions, so that by the end of the course they are confident in their understanding of systematic synthetic phonics.
