Future Ready Project Learning

Sign up by 12:00 (GMT) on Friday 17 September! Overview Are you involved in delivering the Project Qualification and in need of some support? Maybe you want to understand how a project learning approach can prepare your learners for future success by incorporating future skills into your secondary curriculum. If the answer is yes to any of these, then this course will be of interest to you. Don’t worry if you’re not delivering the Pearson Project Qualification, this course is suitable for both Pearson and non-Pearson Project Qualification teachers, as well as any secondary teacher. This is a 12-week training course that has been developed by Dr Emma Thompson, Head of Enhancement, University of Southampton, and Dr John L. Taylor, Director of Learning, Teaching and Innovation at Cranleigh School and Pearson EPQ Chief Examiner. The course will take you through the project process and build your confidence in project learning as you start to develop your own small-scale research project. We will give you the tools needed to enrich your students’ learning experiences through project work and develop their transferable skills for progression to higher education/workplace. You will watch on-demand videos on topics such as framing good project titles and critical thinking; and build on the skills you learn each week through set tasks, culminating in two submission points for your own project. You will attend live webinars and contribute to an ongoing discussion forum, enabling you to collaborate and network with other delegates and course facilitators. The following topics will be covered in each module. Module 1: The Project Way of Learning Successful implementation of project learning – focus on the important features of successful project learning. Framing good project titles – investigating the features of good project titles and how to mentor learners through the process of framing a good title. Module 2: Learning through Researching Source selection, analysis, synthesis and evaluation – focus on developing knowledge of source selection, analysis, synthesis and evaluation in a way that will be supportive of practice in the classroom and for own professional projects. Digital tools and supporting learners with research – how digital tools for the collection of resources can be used in research and in the classroom. How research skills can be taught to different level of learners and across the curriculum. At the end of this module delegates are required to submit a 250-word project proposal on their professional interest project,which will then be peer assessed. Module 3: Developing and Realising Your Own Ideas Project development as a process – this will address techniques for teaching Project development skills, including the use of critical thinking to deepen learning and the application of creative skills. Developing your own ideas – focus on providing guidance for delegates in developing their own research as well as supporting their learners. At the end of this module delegates are required to submit a 500–1000-word discussion section on their professional interest project, which will then be peer assessed. Module 4: Learning through Reviewing The review process – explore techniques for encouraging learners to engage in self-reflective evaluation of their project work. This will address different contexts for project reviews, including presentations and exhibitions of work. Next steps for embedding project work – suggestions for practical steps that can be taken in areas of continued professional development to help create a learning culture in which project work becomes a central element for learners across the age range and throughout the curriculum. Live webinars There will be a scheduled Zoom webinar for each module. This is a chance to share information and experience with other delegates and ask questions of the course facilitators.
