On-Demand

This coursework marking training event is designed for teachers delivering our Pearson Edexcel GCSE Art and Design qualification.

The training is broken down into four modules of which modules 1-3 can be completed in your own time and you can take them as many times as you need.

The structure of the modules is based around the principles we use when training our moderators.

The four modules are:

Module 1: Understanding the assessment requirements for Components 1 and 2. (Pre-recorded training)

In this module our senior examiner will take you through the assessment requirements for Components 1 and 2 to support your understanding of how to apply the assessment grids regardless of which endorsement you are delivering.

As part of this training, we will look at an exemplar portfolio, apply the assessment grids and determine a mark for the work.

On completion of this module, you can move onto module 2 where you can practice marking a number of portfolios for each component at a convenient time and place.

Module 2: Applying the assessment grids for Components 1 and 2 (marking exercise)

In this module you will be marking four portfolios for each component using the assessment grids in preparation for module 3.

You will need to download the following materials:

  • four portfolios for each component across a range of endorsements
  • the assessment grids allowing you to capture the marks for each portfolio

If you are unsure about the requirements of the assessment, please go back to module 1.

Module 3: Understanding the marks given for each portfolio (Pre-recorded training)

In this module our senior examiner will look at each of the portfolios in module 2 and explain the marks given and why.

If you feel that you require more training/support after completing Modules 1-3, please sign up to one of our live Q&A sessions (Module 4).

In addition, if after completing modules 1-3 you have any questions you want to raise, then please submit your questions via the survey provided. These questions will form part of the FAQs that will be covered in module 4, the live Q&A training.

Module 4: Group marking exercise and live Q&A session (Online event)

This training is intended for centres who, after completing modules 1-3, still require further support. It is broken down into two parts. The first part is a group exercise where you will mark the work of a new portfolio not seen in modules 1-3.

The second part is a live Q&A session where you have an opportunity to speak to an experienced examining team member who will be able to answer questions you may have previously submitted as part of module 3, along with any additional questions you may have.

To get the most out of this session, it is essential to complete modules 1-3 in advance.

If you feel that you require more training/support after completing Modules 1-3, please sign up to one of our live Q&A sessions (Module 4) on the Pearson PD Academy. Alternatively you can watch a recording of the live event below.
